Cahoon Park Lakefront Master Plan Process

City Council Presentations

On December 8, 2020, SmithGroup gave a presentation (PDF) to provide an update to City Council during the committee session.  

On February 1, 2021, SmithGroup gave a final presentation (PDF) to City Council to review the completed plan.  City Council passed a motion to adopt the plan later that evening.

Public Input Meeting 3

The third public input meeting was held by Webex on November 12, 2020 at 5:30 pm. This meeting was an opportunity to review and discuss the draft consensus master plan design that was developed based on the previous meetings and geological study.  A recording of the presentation and the presentation slides (PDF) are available for review.

Participants in the Webex and those who reviewed the presentation were invited to take a survey to provide thoughts and feedback.

Public Input Meeting 2

The second public input meeting for the Cahoon Park Master Plan Study was held on October 15, 2020, at 5:30 pm via WebEx.  The meeting included break-out sessions to review and discuss several design concepts for the park master plan.  A video recording of the meeting is available for review on YouTube.

The full presentation slides (PDF) (14MB) provide background and context for the project, and the slides from the break-out sessions (PDF) (5MB) focus on the three concepts.  All of these concepts had several things in common:

  • An underlying focus on protecting the shoreline from erosion
  • Promoting access to the lakefront
  • A long-term approach to park planning

It was expected that the final plan would include elements from all three concepts, and be a guideline for park improvement implementation over many years.

Public Input Meeting 1

The first public presentation and discussion was held by Webex on August 26, 2020 to review the opportunities and constraints of the site and collect input in the development of designs for the space.  A video recording of the presentation is available for review on YouTube.

After the presentation, a survey was available to collect additional input and thoughts about the park.  The survey received 345 responses.
