Safe Routes to School Intersections

Following the creation of the Safe Routes to School Travel Plan and application for funding, the Ohio Department of Transportation awarded Bay Village funds to update five intersections that were identified as important connectors for school travel. These updates are scheduled to be completed in 2023.

An RRFB, or "rectangular rapid-flashing beacon," is a pedestrian-activated visibility enhancement like the pedestrian crosswalks at Lake and Cahoon Roads, Lake and Columbia Roads, and Dover Center and Bruce Roads.

Wolf Road at Porter Creek Drive or Beach Lane Intersection
No pedestrian crossing from bike path/LENSC to BMS
Add standard or RRFB ADA-compliant crosswalk.
Osborn Road / Sutcliffe Drive Intersection
Heavily used intersection would benefit from increased visibility. Ramps not angled correctly.
Add RRFB crosswalk. Replace ramps with ADA-compliant ramps, restripe crosswalks.
Dover Center Road / West Oviatt Avenue Intersection
Multiple crosswalks, slope is too steep
Eliminate north crosswalk, enhance south crosswalk.
Ashton Lane / Bassett Road Intersection
Irregular crosswalk configurationReplace ADA ramps, restripe crosswalks
Bradley Road at Bradley Road Park entrance / Bay Lodge
No crosswalk across Bradley connecting the park to the route students travel
Install mid-block RRFB crosswalk.
