Many elderly residents want to stay in their homes as they age, but may require assistance to do so. Bay Village Community Services is working with community groups, volunteers, and reputable home tradespeople and contractors to provide age-in-place services to our seniors.
Aging in Place assistance most often includes lawn or landscaping care, snow removal, routine home maintenance, and repair activities. In some instances, more substantial work needs to be done to the home, such as adding an upstairs laundry room, first floor shower, etc. Community Services can help provide resources for these services, some free of charge through volunteers, some by reliable handymen, and some through contractors, depending on the scope of work.
While the ability to age in place is specific to each individual and his or her home, there are easy modifications everyone can take to make the home safer. The resources at the links below detail what makes a home aging-friendly, and suggest the kinds of designs and modifications that can make a home safer, more comfortable and a better “fit” for every resident — of every age.
