Officer Recruitment Process
Become a Police Officer
The Bay Village Police Department offers exciting and rewarding opportunities to candidates who have the skills and determination to succeed in law enforcement. Below are the requirements and selection process for an entry-level police officer with the City of Bay Village.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 40 at time of appointment.
- Applicants must possess a high school diplomas or GED.
- Applicants must have U.S. Citizenship.

All prospective Bay Village Police Officers must take a civil service examination and are ranked according to their score. To pass the exam, a minimum score of 70% must be achieved.
Applicants may receive extra credit for the following up to a maximum of ten extra points.
5 Points | Two-year Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or Police Science Associate Degree, OR four-year BA, BS, or AB from an accredited college in any field. |
5 Points | Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certification for full-time officer, plus two years experience in the field. |
2 Points | Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) without experience in the field |
5 Points | Military veterans who have served at least one year active duty and have been honorably discharged. |
Background and Process:
Once you have successfully completed the testing process, applicants will be ranked on a list which will be approved by the Civil Service Commission. Applicants must pass all examinations to be considered for appointment: written, physical agility, background investigation, polygraph, personal interview, psychological exam, and a comprehensive medical exam, including drug testing. The City of Bay Village has a "no-hire policy" for applicants who use tobacco.
