Safe Routes to School

The City of Bay Village, in coordination with Bay Village City Schools, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), completed a Safe Routes to School Travel Plan (PDF) in 2019.

The School Travel Plan was the result of many months of information gathering and analysis, including safety walk audits of the Bay Village public K through 8 schools, extensive input at public meetings and open houses, and review by a steering committee comprised of public and private sector community representatives.  The final plan provides recommendations for infrastructure and non-infrastructure improvements that can be made to increase safety for student as they walk and bike between school and home.  The recommended improvements include improved crosswalks and bike safety training. In 2020, ODOT awarded Bay Village funding for intersection and crosswalk improvements that are scheduled for completion in 2023.

School Travel Plans should be updated at least every five years to incorporate improvements and reflect current conditions.
