Seniors

Senior Programs and Services are under the auspices of the Community Services Department. Social programs and activities are held at the Dwyer Memorial Senior Center, 300 Bryson Lane and The Friendship Center, 303 Cahoon Road in the lower level of the Community House. Mailing address is 300 Bryson Lane for all Community and Senior Services.

The Director of Community Services is Debbie Bock, (440) 899-3409. Shirley Hostetler, (440) 899-3442, is Assistant to the Director and Meals on Wheels Coordinator. The Community Services office is at the Dwyer Memorial Senior Center, 300 Bryson Lane, (440) 899-3409. All senior services are arranged through this office. Services include transportation, Waldeck Trust Home Care, Community Care Monitor (daily safety checks), lock boxes, housing options, equipment loan, Meals on Wheels, information and referral.

Social programming for seniors is coordinated by Ann Gilmore Orin whose office is at The Friendship Center, 303 Cahoon Road, (440) 899-3411. Senior Transportation Service has been an active service since 1985. Transportation by van or car for residents 60 years and older and disabled residents is available Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Van is wheelchair accessible. Bay Senior Transportation is scheduled from the Dwyer Center office. Transportation Coordinator is Mary Beth Rowland, (440) 899-3410.

The Prime Times, a monthly newsletter for seniors, is available for $10.00 a year. Information on all activities and programs for seniors is included.

Senior Activities are planned for those 55 and over at the two senior center buildings. Overnight and day trips, adult education, book discussion groups, investment club, informational speakers, a full woodshop, health screening, geri fit/body sculpting, line dancing, gardening, Tai Chi, bird watching, luncheons, knitting, movies, bridge, pinochle, Mah Jongg, walking, computer tutors, antiques group, art exhibits and volunteer opportunities are available.

  • Open Woodshop - every Wednesday 9:00 - 12:00 at Friendship Center
  • Gardening Group - every Wednesday during growing season, 9:00 at Friendship Center
  • Knitting/Cross stitch - - every Wednesday, 9:30 at Friendship Center
  • Pinochle & Canasta - every Wednesday, except 3rd Wednesday, 1:30 at Friendship Center
  • Computer Tutoring - every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10:00 and 11:00 at Friendship Center
  • Walkers - every Monday and Thursday morning, 8:30 a.m. at Friendship Center
  • Duplicate Bridge - every Thursday 12:30 - 3:30 at Friendship Center
  • Health Screening - every Monday morning 9:00 - 11:30 at Friendship Center
  • Party Bridge - every Monday 12:30 at Friendship Center
  • Men's Pinochle - every Tuesday 9:00 a.m. at Friendship Center
  • Ladies' Pinochle - every Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at Friendship Center
  • Mah Jongg - every Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at Friendship Center
  • Tai Chi - Mondays 10:30 - 12, and Fridays 10 - 11:30 at Dwyer Center
  • Geri Fit/Body Sculpting - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 - 9:15 at Dwyer Center
