Memorial Day

Memorial Day - Freedom is Not Free!

Monday, May 29th will be the annual Memorial Day Parade and formal observances to honor those that gave their life to our country and those that have served our country to support the freedoms we all enjoy everyday. All Veterans are welcomed to join the American Legion, VFW, and VVA to march behind these organizations in the parade to be recognized.  The parade will step off at about 8:45 a.m. from Huntington Park and march West on Lake Rd to the Lakeview Cemetery for services and recognition of the city founders that served early for our country.  The parade will reform on Lake Rd and march East to Cahoon Rd and turn South to end at the Gazebo. Community leaders and some local honorees will be recognized at the Gazebo ceremony. A 21 gun salute, taps, and patriotic music will be part of the ceremony to honor our local Heroes and current Veterans in our community.  All are invited to line Lake and Cahoon Rd to recognize the veterans, and enjoy the BHS Band, First Responders, and Scouts.  Please remember that this is a solemn occasion and we request that you provide due respect for the event.

This is a great American tradition, and a great way to start your holiday.

Following the parade and Veteran's Memorial Service the Bay Village Foundation will host its 15th annual ceremony to install and dedicate permanent bronze plaques on Memorial Day. The ceremony will take place in Cahoon Park at approximately 10:30 a.m. across the street from the Gazebo under the tent immediately following the Veterans Memorial Day Service.

Program Chairwoman, Eileen Vernon announced that TV personality, Jon Loufman will emcee the program. The Bay High Honors Quartet under the direction of Ms. Carrie Singler will play before and during the program.  Three lucky students will be awarded scholarships and several volunteer groups will receive grants. This sharing of funds would not be possible without the generosity of Bay Village Residents.

The Village Foundation plaque program was established as a way for families and friends to give enduring recognition to Bay citizens in one central place.  Donors that contribute at the level of $2500 or more may request a plaque to honor the life work of Bay Village residents living or dead.
