Bay Village Building Department

Do you need a building permit, or have questions about new construction or rental properties?  The Bay Village Building Department can help.  We are dedicated to protecting the quality of life, health, safety and welfare of the residents of Bay Village through the enforcement of codes, ordinances and regulations.

Responsibilities of Bay Village Building Department

The Building Department reviews construction plans and issues building permits for alterations, repairs, and new construction. Our inspectors perform inspections, scheduled by the contractor or homeowner, as required by each permit. The building department also handles:

  • Annual licensing and inspection of rental properties.
  • Property maintenance complaints.
  • Registration of contractors working in the city.

Lists of registered contractors are available at Bay Village City Hall. You may also call us to make sure your contractor is registered in Bay Village.

The Bay Village Building Department is certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards. We enforce the Ohio Building Code and the Residential Code of Ohio. These codes include the enforcement of the National Electric Code, the Ohio Mechanical Code and the Ohio Plumbing Code.

The Bay Village Building Department processes applications for the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and the Architectural Board of Review.

The Bay Village Building Department is open Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Permits and contractor registrations are processed from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Mon. - Fri. We are closed on all national holidays.  Inspection requests made by 4:00 p.m. will be honored for the following day.
